History of MAN in China
20 years ago when Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge AG strided into Chinese market with its technology license agreement, nobody could foresee the consequence today: 8 of 10 local trucks of 15 tons above loading capacity adopt Steyr truck technology! 200,000 Steyr trucks running on Chinese land shows that Steyr has become a synonym for heavy duty truck in China. Neoplan marked its entry in China in 1986 with the similar experience as Steyr. Nowadays, the share of Neoplan in luxury touring coach market ranks top in China. As is known to all, Steyr and Neoplan are two vital brands of MAN Group.
MAN Truck & Bus headquartering in Munich, Germany is a leading manufacturer of medium, heavy and extra-heavy trucks, specialty vehicles, commuter buses and luxury coaches as well as top notch engines and quality components. In 1997, MAN set up legal representative offices in China – Beijing Office and Shanghai Office of MAN Truck & Bus/ Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge AG.
In 2000, Neoplan Bus Gmbh under MAN and a Chinese automobile manufacturing company solely held by Pang Qingnian established a licensed Jinhua Neoplan Vehicle Co., Ltd. On August 25, 2004, Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of MAN visited the production workshops of Jinhua Neoplan Group and then announced the plan of overall cooperation between the two sides.
On March 2003, MAN signed a licensed production agreement on LE2000 cab technology with CNHTC. In October, the first batch of “Huanghe Prince“ trucks configured with this type of cab were put into market.
On May 18, 2004, MAN signed a technology license agreement with Shaanxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd. on F2000 cab stamping, chassis and driving axle at Diaoyutai State Guest House. Its cooperation with Shannxi Automobile moved Chinese heavy duty truck industry a level ahead. The "Delong F2000“ brand they launched is claimed as "China’s Third-generation Heavy-duty Truck“ by media.
On May 21, 2004, TGA, the flagship product of MAN’s new-generation truck “Trucknology Generation“ was launched in China.
In August 2004, MAN Truck & Bus set up MAN Truck and Bus (China) Ltd. in Beijing, a head office for China region to strengthen its business activities including sale, market, technology, after-sales service and so on, clearly indicating its emphasis on Chinese market.
On October 31, 2006, MAN made investment in China once again. It established Asia’s first MAN Truck and Bus Center in Beijing Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone by means of direct investment. As the sales and service flagship in China, the Center has installed MAN’s globally unified software and hardware facilities for maintenance service.
