Adaptive cruise control keeps you at the right distance from the vehicle ahead.
There are many aspects to safety in trucks. The most important of them are the assistance systems in the vehicle and the driver's ability to react quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations. MAN Truck & Bus has developed innovative solutions for both aspects: situation-orientated driver training courses for professionals and electronic assistance systems which support the driver in normal and difficult situations.
Electronic assistants
A study published by Allianz Zentrum für Technik and MAN Truck & Bus in 2006 shows that the number of serious truck accidents can be considerably reduced with the aid of modern driver assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Guard System.
With these systems MAN trucks are extremely safe to drive:
Adaptive Cruise Control ACC A driver frequenty underestimates his speed and overestimates the distance to the vehicle in front. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) automatically adapts the distance to the vehicle ahead in acordance with the settings previously made and thus reduces the risk of rear-end collisions.
Electronic Stability Program ESP This system constantly monitors the vehicle's dynamics status and intervenes automatically in the engine management and brake system if there is a risk of the truck's skidding or tipping over.
Tyre Pressure Monitor TPM If the tyre pressure falls to the minimum permissible level a check lamp in the dashboard draws the driver's attention to this critical situation.
Lane Guard System LGS A video camera behind the windscreen monitors the vehicle's position in relation to the lane markings. If the truck crosses one of the two markings without the driver having actuated the direction indicator an acoustic signal sounds to warn the driver.
